The Great Tetris Invasion of 2012 ! (Inked Art) by Janusart The Great Tetris Invasion of 2012 ! (Inked Art) by Janusart
Hello everybody, Merry christmas and happy new year ^^

Finally had time to finish this piece that I started a few months ago. I just couldn't work out the constrasts and color repartition and it took a lot of time to finish ...

This is my vision of the end of the world! An invasion by tetris pieces (tetraminos). Imagine if all of our imaginary games would start merging with our world ... we would be hunted by giant pacmans and space invaders ... pretty scary idea ..

Most difficult piece I've made until now (I think I say that each time I post a new piece ^^) ... too many windows and to many lines for the lining (check out my step by step piece in which I explain every step in the creation of this piece), and very very very long inking ...

TIME: draft:25h, lining: 8h, inking: 12h (2h for red)
TOOLS: technical paper CANSON A3, indian ink, 0.05 liner STAEDTLER, Red Drawink Ink MAJUSCULE
No major stains

Making of the drawing available here:

EDIT: I cannot believe I actually got a second DD !!!! Really happy my unique style is appreciated and that soo many people have reacted and commented, as I promised, I'll try to reply to everyone ^^.

Reminds me of when I first got a Game Boy. I played Tetris non-stop! Nice job!

love the composition! can't believe this was inked traditionally, every thing is so neat and crisp! I love the black on white silouhettes of the birds and how the straight lines feed them into the environment! I also like how you did the tetris blocks like modern art panes falling from the ceiling, and the repition of the square tiles in the building windows. everything is very blocky and symmetrical and 8 bit, which is a nice tie back to tetris. The simple colour palette also helps there :) The black and white makes it so dramatic, especially the shadowless steps and the sun in the background! I could look at this picture forever, and still find more pretty and interesting things like the cat and the mirrored curls in the fringe. wondering if the red sun is a tie to the japanese flag. either way, this is a very beautiful and cultured picture, and I find it mind boggling you traditionally inked this! kudos to you, can see the time paid off!

ps. congrats of the dd

Thanks a lot. I really appreciate when people  give such detailed comments. You really understood what I tried to which is not always simple ^^. I indeed wanted the tetris pieces to look like the building windows, the whole background needed to look like pixels. The simple color palets makes it easier to make some elements pop out by using the red ink but it is also much more difficult to find the right balance between the 3. I'm also really happy you noticed the cat and the mirrored curls, I love to include such small details but I'm never sure if people will spot them ^^. The red sun (or moon) is not supposed to be a reference to the japanese flag, but it's not the first time people tell me that perhaps it's an unconscious reference. I just love to add circles in my drawings. Thanks again for your great comment ^^!
